When paying our Comcast cable bill on Friday, May 30, 2008 at the local Comcast store (Milpitas), we ask what high speed internet service was available for our area in north San Jose. The Comcast customer service person said that for new high speed internet connection customer, the rate of $19.95 per month for 6 months was available followed by the regular rate of $42.95 / month for cable TV customer. We signed up immediately and got the self install kit that day. A service tech came out the next day (Saturday, 31 May 2008) to provision the line outside of our house. So early Sunday morning on June 1st 2008, we set up the high speed internet service using a leased modem($3.00/month) and the download speed we were getting was around 27K kbps and upload was around 1600 kbps This is a far better improvement compared to our previous service (Sprint Broadband Direct) which is terminating service in the San Jose area by 7/31/2008 due to an FCC mandate.
