I have had Comcast for a few years now. I havent had too many problems until I moved to Ga. Comcast, determines which call center to direct you to based on your phone number. This works great if you have a land line, but if you are using a cell phone with an area code from another state, things tend to not go smoothly. And to make matters more confusing for the phone zombies, I also have service in Florida. I needed to open a new account in Ga. While keeping the existing service in Fla. After going in circles for a few days attempting to get service in Savannah Ga, I finally called the local service center. They made arrangements to connect my service, which they scheduled a week later? Which I have never seen such delay in service, usually they arrive within a day or two. Here in Savannah Ga, it is at least one week. The installer finally shows up, which of course I had an emergency appointment I was not home, so I had to reschedule the install a few day later? Finally the installer shows up, and the guy did the install, which he installed filters on the line which limited my channels to stop at 23. I attempted to arrange a reinstall which took 3 weeks? In the end the guy showed up and fixed everything. I noticed here in Savannah Ga, They use a subcontractors to do the installations, the last installer that was here at my house was a real Comcast Employee, he seemed to get it right
Everything has been fine since... My lesson here is to call the local service center, not the 1-800 number!
Other Problems: Comcast decided to block port 25, (SMTP sending mail port), I couldnt send Email? They sent an email stating I am spamming and they have a handy installer that will fix my email. This handy installer will only change the port of your Comcast SMTP port to 587. If youre using outlook or a similar program, it will only change the Comcast Associated account, if you have other email accounts which most use port 25; well that is your tough luck? I researched this online and have found many people seem to have had a similar experience, and they are doing this at random. I have never sent Spam mail and my network is very restricted and virus free. From my research if one calls them and ask that the modem be reset, use the excuse the modem is not working, this will reset the port and enable port 25, thou I havent tried this yet as I can work around this problem. Not a big problem for me, I just find it questionable, to send an email stating that I am sending Spam I need their virus scanner. I have never installed any of their programs, nor will I ever. I can use ipconfig without their crapware.
I am supposedly subscribed to 6MB download speed Download speed 2747 Kb/s Upload Speed- 3833 Kb/s (latency 84ms) Using Net@Acess Parsippany, NJ server test. Using Netgear Router WPN824 v2 Comcast Supplied Motorola Broadband Modem SB5101
UPDATE 9-29-08
I recieved my bill and they have over charged me for digital cable which I never subscribed to? I ordered the Basic Tier1 cable for the broadband. Now I have to go to the office to have this corrected. As my attempts over the phone were of no use. I subscribed to the 8 meg which I have since removed. And my speeds are the same without the extra $10 a month charge. I also received the email alerting me that my PC is sending spam? I need to down load their MacAfee program. Seems a bit odd as my Home PC and Modem Have been turned off for the past 3 weeks? My lap top does not send or receive Comcast mail? I have also received the Caping limiting my usage E mail as well. I wish their was a realistic alternative here in Savannah Ga. Until then I will have to keep this.
