    From the beginning...

When I ordered my service, I was told that I could get service at $40(+tax) for life. I said GREAT lets do it. When the tech came for the install, he said my service was only $38 after taxes, etc. Now I normally wouldn't complain but I still inquired about the difference. He said that I was at $38 a month, then after 12 months I would be at $48ish a month. I told him what I ordered but he said that it wasn't possible for me to be on $40(+tax) without double-play or triple-play. Now, the website AND the person I spoke with said nothing about double/triple-play for the $40(+tax). In fact, I ordered my service from the website which if I needed the extra services, should have stopped me from ordering.

    Install...

The install tech was a little late but that was ok (got me a half-day off work). I had looked around the house the day before and had a good idea of where I wanted the cable box and cables run. I outlined to the tech the general idea of where the cables might go and he agreed that it would be a good place for them. The house had never had cable service before so the tech ran a brand-new coax line to the house. I am glad that he did so I didn't have to worry about line-loss etc. with an aging cable. I watched the whole process and he did an excellent job. We were able to take the new coax directly to the cable modem so I know for sure that I got a good signal (plus his tester said it was an excellent signal).

    Hook-Up...

The tech let me choose what cable modem I would like. I was able to choose from three of them and I choose the Motorola SB5120. We fired up my computer and proceeded to activate the service. At this point the tech didn't know what to do...kind of. He did know what to do, but not from a Linux box. I guess I needed to run an application (I hate those applications that need run before you can use something; just let the O.S. find it and everything plays nicer in the end). He called in to the main office and they activated my service over the phone.

    So Far...

Everything has been running smoothly. After 3 months there has been no down-time and have had no reason to call customer-support. I have also had the pleasure of downloading about 1MB (yes, Mega-BYTE) per second sustained on an entire Linux ISO. That puts me into power-boost for the whole time. I used to have Comcast about 6 years ago and it was BAD BAD BAD. Dropped connections all the time and having to reset the modem all the time. BUT, that was about 25 miles from where I am now (in an older / more populated area). The service at my present location has be terrific. I just hope that I can find a better deal before 12 months are up so I don't have to deal with the price-hike.
