Moved to the Huntsville, AL area back in 10/06 and took over an account from the person who used to live here. Started having immediate problems with the modem, along with some random TV issues. Got a truck roll after almost an hour on the phone with a tech who could barely speak English, but was based in the HSV area. Two days later, truck came out, saw the problem, ran me a new line straight off the base splitter, and the modem issues stopped.
Fast forward about 4-5 months. Started seeing massive upstream issues, but downstream was fine. Run a speed test with no other programs connected to the net, and I'd see the 16Mbps powerboosted (what a joke) downstream, and about 20kbps upstream, when it should be at least 900kbps. Happened fairly regularly, usually starting around 11pm, and ending between 1-5am. Several calls later, including two times being hung up on, I finally got another truck roll. Guy came out, looked at a few things, took off a really nasty looking Cinemax/Showtime filter off my line and declared things ok. About 8 hours later, the same thing happened. Now, keep in mind that if I called before 11pm, I'd get the local call center, who really didn't know what they were doing. If I called after about 11:30pm, I'd get the regional center in Nashville, and with one notable exception, they were very smart and nice. After numerous truck rolls, it was determined that there was an issue farther up the line, and maintenance was sent out to monitor. After almost another month of line issues, the problem was traced to a box about a half mile away that had parts arcing inside of it. Got replaced and the upstream issues disappeared.
Random disconnects still happen often. For a while they had issues with the SC5100 config file not being pushed correctly, or something like that. Whatever it was, it was confusing the modems and dropping me offline. That was fixed as well, but the disconnects still happen with fair regularity. Down as much as 6 hours at a time, and it's never anything that Comcast can see, yet I've had the modem tested, the router tested, used different modems, used no router etc, and have unconditionally proven my equipment works, yet all I can do is wait for the signal to come back.
Won't be any updates to this, as I'm moving to CA and I've got fiber out there that blows away anything Comcast can offer.
