Been with Bellsouth (now the evil AT&T) for about 6 years. Added Comcast to the mix about 7 months ago.

As far as speed is concerned, there's no comparison. Comcast is way, way speedier. I get a sustained 8.5Mb/s down and 2.1Mb/s up. Bursting of the first few MB are even faster. With DSL, my download speed was fine, but upload pales in comparison. using LogMeIn through the cable connection is noticeably faster for obvious reasons.

In the 7 months I've had the cable modem I've had 3 outages. Each one lasted several hours and one lasted for nearly 24 hours. Not good.

In the 6 years with DSL, I had one outage that lasted a couple days (modem went bad and back in the old days it was not possible to buy a DSL modem in a retail store) and maybe 3-4 other outages that lasted a few hours or less. Nothing really memorable other than the modem failure that occurred in 2003 or so.

The few times I called Comcast to report the outages, each time they at first tried to blame my PC. Each time they claimed they could see my modem, blah, blah so it must have been my computer. Each time they were wrong and it turned out to be their problem. Convincing them is often a challenge and their reaction time is slow.

All in all, I do recommend Comcast, but wish they'd improve their support training and the quality of their staff. Some of them literally sound like their doing something else (like playing a game) while you're talking with them.
