Recent convert from 3/768 DSL to Comcast HSI only. Although more pricey, I can justify the additional cost due to the much higher average speeds. Latency is generally low, but I do see some more jitter than I did with Verizon DSL. It took a month of haggling to get installation charges that were inconsistent with my web order removed. Along similar lines, tech support "accidentally" added a variety of Comcast Digital Voice charges to my account when I called in the MAC and serial number of a new Motorola modem that I exchanged with the rental unit that Comcast supplied. It took a month to get the something close to the proper refund. All considered, I feel that Comcast HSI in my area is superior to Verizon Online DSL. I detest the thought of usage caps and throttling, but my usage hasn't triggered either.
Update: 3/24/2009 - I was unable to learn any specifics about two automated applications of the port 25 block to my modem from Comcast. The block prevented access to my employers outgoing mail server from my email client. I did determine that one of the computers on my LAN had an outdated version of an antivirus application and was infected. I'm assuming that it may have generated unwanted traffic. Ultimately, an upper level individual in Comcast's abuse department removed the block. I agree with the reasoning behind blocking port 25 traffic, but feel that customers who request trouble shooting information should be provided with a sufficient level of detail in order to isolate and rectify the issue. In the end, I can say the customer access to the appropriate people in the Comcast organization is available.
