After some research, I learned Comcast was the only high speed internet provider in my area. DSL is in my general area, but does not reach me. I called up Comcast and ordered the Blast! 20mbps package and a self installation kit.
The kit arrived within a few days and included two RG6 coaxial cables, an ethernet cable, Motorola modem, and instruction manual. It was very easy up until the point of inserting the included Setup CD. I just skipped the CD and called tech support and they provisioned my modem in less than a few minutes.
So far, the speeds have been consistent. I'm now using a Linksys wireless router with no problems. If you can get Comcast, I strongly recommend it!
I'll be sure to update this review if my experience changes.
UPDATE: May 2009:
No major issues so far. We did have a short outage when a line was severed down the street but Comcast was there within a couple hours and fixed it fast. I was without internet for no more than a few hours. Thanks Comcast!
UPDATE: June 2009:
We just had a major wind storm and an entire utility pole collapsed near by. Comcast arrived quickly, second to the electric company, to repair the lines. In total, we were only without internet for a very short time. Thanks again Comcast!
