I used to have Ameritech DSL, but then I switched to AT&T Broadband in 2000, and am still with Comcast now. I signed on with the 3/3 mbps package, and, somewhere along the line, it went to 6/6, and now it's 12/6. The order was placed on Friday @ 5, install was Sunday @ Noon. I have a RCA/Thomson modem, which (uggh) pushes the public address (63.x.x.x) to my Netgear WGR614v7 (Apple AirPort Graphite until 2008) which causes a 3 min lag after router reboot to find the IP, and convert it into the 5 172.158.0.x (Highly nonstandard as is) addresses used by local devices. Otherwise, outstanding service. I still prefer the 2005 homepage; look it up on the Internet Archive, the address was »www.comcast.net/express, which was much better than the slow crap they have now.
EDIT: LOVE the new Comcast.net beta! »www.comcast.net/beta
    Final Judgement:
    Reliability: AT&T
    Speed: Comcast
    Ease of Use: Comcast
    Devices needed to connect:
    AT&T 1[Winner]/Comcast 2[Losah]
Best DNS: AT&T [Ameritech Chicago Addresses]
Best News: AT&T [SBC Chicago News]
    Best eMail: Comcast's SmartZone
    Most Features: TIE
AT&T: Even has it's own NTP server [ntp1.sbcglobal.net]
Comcast: SmartZone Communication Center. 'Nuff said.

    There is a difference

ATT is not a division of comcast and the sale of there product in the Chicago land area was complete and final. ATT has comparable products like Call Advantage, UVERSE which can go as fast as 18Mbps down and 10Mbps up it also can offer over a 100 channels in HD depending on how far you are from the VRAD you are. ATT also offer DSL which can go as fast as 6Mbps down and 768kbps up and it's price very reasonable. ATT got out of the cable business because the future in the technology was limited and was getting to close to the end. ATT discovered fiber has a bigger future due unlimited bandwidth that can be exploited from it.

Cable had a fine future in 2001, and AT&T [notice the & in AT&T] will milk copper as long as possible, where as FiOS costs more, but is true FTTP. BTW, CallVantage shut down (good, it sucks monkey nuts).
