Comcast was offering triple play (XF Preferred) w/ two yr contract for 119/mo. Price included HD DVR w/ full line up of programming including STarz as an inlcuded premium channel (if you can call it that premium), unlimited domestic calling with their digital voice product, and internet at 20/3, and a $100 gift card rebate. Everything worked the day of the install except the free HBO and Showtime, which I had to call and complain about to get working). Tech arrived right on time. With cable prices rising almost every other month, I decided to take the 2 yr deal and lock in the price. My apt doesn't have the right view for dish, so I didn't have much in the way of options for tv. Comcasts basic plan, along with the cheapest DSL offering from Qwest would put me at 90/ mo. So the extra 30 bucks bought me triple the internet speed of Qwest, a phone line, expanded tv channels, HD channels, HD-DVR free for one of the two yrs, and a little peace of mind that the price won't creep up for two yrs. Naked DSL from qwest would run me about 45 per month for 7 Mbps/896K or $60 for 20 Mbps/896K, and Starter cable from comcast is also about 45. So is it a value? None of my options seemed like a value. I could have downgraded the offerings and gotten a slightly cheaper deal, but would have seriously slowed my internet ( i stream from vudu and hulu a lot), given up HD channels (and what of my HD tv then?), been without a DVR.... btw, with taxes and cable modem fee, the total comes to 133/mo, not 119.... kinda figured actual price would vary to the upside.
