It goes down far more frequently than DSL ever thought about. I had Bell South DSL for years. I can count the number of outages over several years on one hand for DSL. I would say that Comcast goes out on average once a month, sometimes more, sometimes less. The speed is excellent, as long as it is on.
When it goes down, I reset my equipment and so forth, and then call tech support when that does not resolve the issue. Even though I assure them that I have already done so, they insist that I restart my equipment, so I just play along, and tell them I am shutting down whatever they say. I never tell them that I have any routers present, because they always want me to unhook those, even when I am certain that is not the problem. Their tech support is virtually worthless over the phone. Only when a tech comes out is anything ever accomplished.
This goes on and on for maybe 5-10 minutes, sometimes longer. Then, after all of that, they tell me that there is a service outage in my area! WTF, why did you just waste 10 minutes or more of my time, when I knew that was the problem all along. Why not just tell me up font, instead of giving me the run-around. I ask what the problem is, and they usually don't know exactly, beyond an outage. There have been times when they told me a piece of equipment was out of service, but they can never tell me when it will be fixed.
If it were not for the brute speed, I would have long since replaced them. They think just because they are a cable monopoly, they can do whatever they want, because we have no other choice. I will give them credit: the service at my house seems to have improved a bit here recently, but it is still not too good at a nearby relatives house.
I am considering doing some professional web hosting, but Comcast will have to somehow assure me that by some magic power that business class internet was somehow substantially more reliable. I am infuriated by their answer when you complain about their service: they just tell you that they will put a note in your file, and to call back when it is back on, and they will deduct the downtime from your bill. I don't think they ever have.
If I am running a business on line, ONE TIME that my web server is offline can be the time I miss no telling how much business. I could lose thousands of dollars, and they want to dishonestly maintain that they will refund a couple of dollars? You HAVE to be kidding me!
