Good "Solid 20/3.5 mbps connection, very good reliability (Bonus: great HD signal)"
- Location: Grandville,Kent,MI
- Cost: $67 per month
- Install: about 2 days
Bad "None really other than no 50 mbps connection offered yet."
Overall "While the March price increase ($3 a month) wasn't terrible it is the best bang for buck ISP in the area."
Long time DSLReports reader first time review. My current ISP here in Grand Rapids, Michigan is Comcast. I have had them since January of 2008 and overall I gotta say they have great customer service and reliability so far. My neighborhood has ground cables and my block box is on my property so I was able to supply my own (3ghz rated Coax) cabling from the box all of the way to my house. This paired with using a 2ghz Monster Cable splitter gives me a nice signal.
I currently have the Blast! package which advertises a top speed of 20/4 mbps. I gotta say that even at peak usage times I get at or just under that rated speeds. The connection is very solid and I have my router setup for Google DNS server info so I have only had one partial day of downtime in the last 6 months.
As for the Bandwidth Cap issue that some people have I personally think 250gb is a reasonable cap limit. Even though I don't online game much anymore I still stream Netflix and upload files to the Cloud and don't come close to touching the limit.
Overall unless Verizon restarts Fios and brings it to Grand Rapids, I am going to stick with Comcast.
