Comcast gives their voice customers an Arris cable modem with an internal battery designed to let the user continue to make calls during a power outage. Just had a power outage here. We typically have several each year. My UPS and generator keep everything in my house working. Internet went out about 43 minutes after the power did. Didn't come back until a couple minutes after the power did. Not much point in keeping the customer's equipment working in a power outage when Comcast can't keep their own equipment working.

I guess I should have read Comcast's reviews here before switching. Other people have noted the same problem:

When ordering new Internet only service from the Comcast website I selected the speed I wanted, then selected the option not to lease a cable modem (I already own one) and then came to the "Customer Info" page. At the bottom of this page is:

Step 4 Enter Credit Check Information
The products in your cart require a credit check and/or a refundable deposit. Depending on your credit score, you may need to pay a partial deposit. You can also choose to pay a full deposit if you do not want Comcast to check your credit. Learn more about Comcast's Credit Policy.

My two options are:
I authorize Comcast to conduct a credit check with the information I have provided.
I will pay the deposit of $150.00. Comcast will not check my credit.

When I click the link to "Learn more about Comcast's Credit Policy" I get:
A credit check and/or deposit is required for new customers (and customers with less than six (6) months of payment history) who lease more valuable Comcast equipment or request Comcast Digital Voice services with a new phone number. If you select a credit check, you may also be asked to pay a partial deposit. If you do not want a credit check, you may choose to pay the full deposit. The full amount of any deposit will be applied to your account balance after twelve (12) months, as long as the account has been in good standing for the previous six (6) months.

Since I am not leasing any equipment from Comcast and I am not ordering Comcast Digital Voice services, according to Comcast's Credit Policy I should not need a credit check and/or deposit.

I complained in the Comcast Direct forum on dslreports.com and did not get an answer. I finally just selected the 2nd option and paid the $150.

Comcast pulled my credit anyway.
