PROs

Getting 60 MBps down/5Mbps up now
Connection reliability has improved with the higher speeds

CONs
Rates are still going up constantly

August 2012

PROs
+Really fast 35Mbps down and 6Mbps up cable internet speeds
+Easy to sign-up, easy to get cable modems relatively cheaply, easy to choose new customer promos
+Fairly stable connection, good for video streaming (i.e., Hulu, Netflix, Amazon, HBOgo, etc.)
+New customer promos starting as low as 39.99 for 6 months (with optional stuff lke free HBO/HBOgo) Then, 54.99 for months 7-12 and so on...
+Status page for service disruptions available in your customer.comcast.com account
CONs
-DOCSIS 2.0 and DOCSIS 3.0 speeds can vary to some degree so depending on if you have Performance or Blast Speeds and what type of DOCSIS cable modem you have, speeds can vary.
-Promotional rates are available only as long as you are a new customer and rates continue to go up the longer you are an existing customer. Very few promos for existing customers and calling to threaten to cancel is the only way you get better deals/rates.
-Bandwidth caps of 250GB/month is probably enough for most people but can get a bit close the more video streaming usage you have. There are no ways to tell how much usage of the cap you have used in the month from Comcast so even if it is unlikely, there is the possibility Comcast could charge extra.
-Choosing an Internet only option doesn't get you any cheaper rates so you are often stuck getting basic cable TV even if you don't want it included.
-Instability/downtime is random even if infrequent and not communicated well unless you can check an online status page through another (i.e., wireless 3G) connection

comcast

i hate doing business with comcast. they continue to hide fees when you sign up for a "bundle" and then play gotcha when they do disclose them. total switch and bait program. i am leaving them after 20+ years.

Re: comcast

How is it bait and switch when they offer a 30 day money back guarantee and everything is listed on their billing? I love how people strick all cable providers and jump on the bandwagon. The topic of this post as well. "You have to keep calling for a discounted rate.." or how about you find an internet provider within your budget. Do you go to a gas station and barter their 500% inflated prices??
