We've been with Earthlink (formerly Mindspring) for over 16 years starting with dial-up and then moving to DSL. For years, the service has been rock solid despite their bad tech support, but eventually we've been having nothing but problems with the service to the point where it would go out every day. Eventually we got fed up with it and decided to switch to Comcast.
After calling their sales, they were running a promotion: Blast! for $29.99 for 6 months plus free installation and they could get someone out to install the next day.
The appointment was scheduled for Saturday between 4 and 6 PM. The tech came a little before 6. After replacing one of our DTAs with a regular cable box (which we got knocked down from $10 to $5 a month after negotiating with sales), he then hooked up the modem which was an Arris Touchstone TG862. After resolving a problem of getting the modem activated, he then had to replace a bad cable due to it causing signal problems. This caused the tech to be out longer than anticipated, but he deserves a lot of credit for resolving all of our problems.
After calling Comcast to put the modem in bridge mode since I already had my own wireless router, I was able to get my router set up with the service. So far everything is running smoothly.
