The sales person was making rounds in the neighborhood explaining that Comcast has leased Verizon's fiber infrastructure and is reselling the bandwidth super cheap. It didn't take him long to convince me and after a 5 min phone call, my install date was set in a week. The rep came, installed the supplied leased modem/router combo in 20 min. The supplied router turned out to be buggy with disconnects, DNS lookup failures and other issues. After realizing that I can provide my own equipment, I bought an old Motorola cable modem and the trusty WRT54G. After installing DD-WRT and a 5 min phone call to swap the modem, my system is now rock solid with several weeks uptime and no issues to report. The speeds are as advertised or better, pings are great. And with my own modem/router I don't have to pay the $7/month equipemnt leasing fee.
