Update 4/15/2020: Contacted the support line that is specific to the franchise agreement that Comcast has with our residential association. Was able to get a new promotion that includes Performance Pro internet (100/5) and 200+ TV channels (instead of 100+) for no added cost. Since we recently purchased our first 4k TV in the house, i found that i was also able to pickup the XG1v4 X1 DVR that has the capability to upscale content to 4k as well as show High-Dynamic-Range content, for only 10$ more a month.

Update 9/15/2019: Free upgrade to Performance Pro internet (75/5)

Update 4/15/2018: Reduce internet speed tier from 250/10 Blast Pro to 60/5 Performance, cutting our internet bill in half (didn't have much of a need for all of that bandwidth. The download sizes i come across these days with my sense of patience [ha] would run efficiently with anywhere between 50-100mbps internet tiers)

Update 4/12/2017: Officially cut the cable TV. Local sports teams suck and comparable shows can be watched for much less using streaming services. Paying for internet-only now.

Update 9/16/2015: A couple weeks ago, Comcast finally gave us the free speed boost the rest of the country started getting a year ago. Guess that failed merger where we were going to be spun off made them realize they still needed to take care of us. Good on them for doing the right thing.

Update 4/1/2014: Called in and had the bill lowered from 250$ to 200$ a month. Got the X1 bundle thrown in and are on a non-contract term now for 2 years, but the price of these services is pretty harsh. Their biggest moneymaker is its high speed internet and yet they jack up the price of it unless you bundle with the even more expensive cable TV subscription which is a dying service in itself.

Original: What is now Comcast in our area, was Time Warner. They had POOR line quality and frequent disconnects (compared to Comcast). I subscribed to the 10mb/512k package at the time, but rarely did I see speed over 650kbps down (concurrent).

Comcast bought out Time Warner here in Minnesota back in 2003 or 2004 and since, the modems they offer for lease and line quality have been exceptional. They are good at giving you a little extra for your money since even though I started with their Performance 12/2mb package, I was getting 1.5mb download concurrent which around a 15mb package. Very satisfied at that fact.

Customer Service whether its on site technicians or phone support, has had its days with me. Some Comcast Techs come out and do some really quick installation or modification of the home cabling and some come out and undo what the previous tech did because they said it was completely wrong. Fortunately when that happens, the problem gets fixed for the better.

Nice price

Thanks MDA! Fellow Minnesotan here. I'll be looking for the $30/mo price you have posted in your review summary.

Re: Nice price

FYI, I currently live in Edina and its a 1 year promotion so your mileage may vary depending on the area you reside.

Re: Nice price

Thanks again for posting. I'd say $360 a year seems like a decent deal as long as the service itself is solid. I'm in the Twin Cites too, so hopefully the promotion will apply.

New Comcast Signup - June 2018

Hello DSLReports-ers!

Today I signed up with Comcast/Xfinity internet with a decent price. This was home service.

The details: called 651-222-3333 and was transferred to the sales department -- gave my email and last four of SSN to pull up my old account -- picked the 12 down / 1 to 5 up plan. Cost is $30/mo with a 1 year agreement ($360 total). Online statements, autopay enrollment, credit card payment, and $15 minimum charge all requested and presumably required while on call. I can prepay the entire year if I wish (no monthly bill that way).

Opted-out of the $90 truck roll, the $12 self install mailer, and the $11/mo modem rental fee. I plan purchasing my modem and already have a coax cable.

Received the number for modem activation: 855-652-3446 and will need to give the serial number of the modem.

Sales rep was helpful and allowed me to lead the process. Total time was about 50 minutes including the call and the password reset chat for access to the online portal.

Best regards,
-Matt Johnson
