[7/2008] Still sucks, but now it costs $54 per month. CATV isn't much better with poor image quality. Consumer Reports rated Charter dead last in the entire US in terms of overall quality.
[Review from 2001] I've had Charter Pipeline in Newnan, GA for over one year now and the one consistent factor has been its inconsistency! The tech support team reminded me of AOL circa 1989. Every time I call they tell me to unplug the modem and plug it back in. That is their solution to everything. Well in over two dozen phone calls it hasn't worked yet! One person even told me to buy a new LAN card because mine was defective. Signal loss occurs often and speeds range from as slow as 62 kb/sec up to 570.
The speed issue bugs me because I have emailed several screenshots of speed tests with poor results and was told by the support personnel the problem is with the local facility. The local representatives then point the figure at the national network. I wish they'd stop pointing fingers and deliver the fast, reliable speed they advertise! Because of competition in the area the price is only $24.95 a month, so this is a good thing. Of course I often have to use my free dialup account from Bluelight.com when Pipeline service is down. I am considering switching to their rival company, Newnan Utilities as I have heard more positive comments about them. DSL would be preferable and it is availkable, but for $50 a month and right now I cannot justify the expense.
To summarize, if you are in the state of Georgia and you have an alternative to Charter, go with plan B. If you do not mind excessive outages and no tech support then call Pipeline because thats what they give you.
