It appears that my experience has been an exception to the rule. I ordered the service after researching pipeline and DSL availability in my area. I chose Charter due to the promised speeds, price and availability. DSL was either not available or out of my budget range for multipe user pricing. Anyway, I ordered it, received a call right away for installation, set up the installation at my convenience, and had my pipeline up and running 6 days after I placed the order. Since that time, Charter has been out and installed new cable lines (without my requesting) to "allow me to get the best reception" they said. Also, I was informed that new T3's were installed about 2 weeks after I received my initial service that boosted the speed as well. Advertise 384/128 and I received 492/100+ consistently. Although there is some down time, it has not really been that often....I am running a SB4100 using the ethernet cable hookup. I understand that in large, others are not having the same experience. I would just hope that things get better for all of those that are having problems...I have since upgraded to 1000/128 and I can tell you, its fast, really fast...I have tweaked it out and have enjoyed 1447/121...After a year of service I continue to receive a high level of support and up time...zoom zoom...update 3/19....since the last time I edited, everything still great, I have spoken with techs a couple of times to take care of minor problems, always friendly and helpful.****update 5/24***since the last time I edited, I have had to contact a tech once when I was having problems with getting email, I was getting IP errors...the tech directed me to the internet connection where I could view my mail, deleted the one that was hosing up the works, email began coming in again with no problem..the 1st level and 2nd level techs were very helpful and professional, asking intelligent questions, discounting invasive solutions and resolving the problem quickly..... ******update 6/27/02*******Beginning on 6/21, I was unable to connect to the internet and noticed that my modem was not functioning well, I began the troubleshooting process with ipconfig/release and renew, unplugging the power and letting it sit for a few hours, checking all connections and power, I phoned Charter, was quickly connected to a Tech. It was decided at that time that their may be a signal problem and a tech was sent out to check the connectivity and signal. I missed the tech, and immediately phoned back and discussed the problem further. It was then decided that it was not the signal, but possible hardware problems with the modem, of which I totally agreed. Today, I received a new SB4101 Surfboard and am back on the internet.....********update 1/15/03******I still am getting outstanding service. I read the reviews by others that are not having the same experience and hope that their situation will change. In the past six months, I have not had any major problems to speak of.....*******update 8/3/03****** Recently my pipeline started going out everytime my digital cable did. I phoned and set up an appointment, the serviceman came out, changed some equipment on the pole, inspected my connections in the box and inside the house. No more problems....hope that your charter pipeline is doing as well as mine....*******Update 9/26/03********Received a letter today from Charter. They increased my speed to 2000 at no extra cost. I had been using the 1500 and also the recently went to 784. I tweaked a little this PM and at about 2000... .My charter still rocks!****Update 04/25/04*****Nothing really new to report. Charter continues to provide excellent service! Normal Service outages from time to time, but overall still very satisfied! Charter Still Rocks!**************UPDATE - 11/24/06 *************No longer with Charter....frequent slow downs sent me venturing into the world of DSL...signed up with BellSouth...after a couple weeks of tweaking...I'm good...
Update 3/15/09...Have not been with Charter since Nov of 06. My overall satisfaction began to wane with Charter due to concerns that even though I had the bundle of services, the monthly cost continued to increase, coupled with a drop in reliability.
