I just re-ordered DSL while the 10 MB package was nice when it worked charter still has problems with keeping up their system. For the past month I have had slow speed nowhere near 10MB and for this past weekend I have been without service most of the time. While it is faster than DSL it just is not reliable and if you are like me and have to send emails a lot for work do not rely on charter.

Well if you read the belowI bet you would be shocked to hear I am giving them another shot...well I am.
So for it is decent on the 10MB package (10/1). My speeds during NON-Prime time is around 7900/940. I have seen it dip very low around 6PM as it used to but this time just not down in the dial up range like last. I was still getting 900/930. It popped back up after about 30 minutes or so to the 5MB range. I switched from my dsl because they would never offer naked dsl, voip, or faster speed in my area. So far I think I am going to happy with the service for the money as long as the speeds do not go down.

Well my speed started out low but they got me up for a few months. I have the gold package for $99 (includes the $29 for the internet service) that includes all the digital cable channels and cable modem that (768/128). Now the fact is rarely do you see the upload speed over 100. From time to time the download speed will go over its cap but rarely. Most of the time the download speed is half of the cap. As for the price for all you get its not bad if the internet service was better. The installation was very smooth and the set up crem was here the next day. They waived some of the setup and give me some breaks on the money end so that part is cool. The problem is that type of service does not seem to continue past the install.
Now for the MAJOR problems!
As of Sunday (11-17-02) I have been getting latency over 1500ms which is horible and speed less than dialup modems. The support people say they will report it to my local office, but the local office doesnt seem to have a clue. If they do have a clue they arent doing anything to fix the problems. I am changing my service to bellsouth DSL very soon! Save your money and time on the phone........STAY AWAY FROM CHARTER in this area (Albertville/Guntersville/Arab) I have heard Decatur was about to run them out of town and think Marshall County should consider doing the same if they cant get their act together SOON!
My latest test shows my upload to be at 64 and the download at 38! WHAT A JOKE!

Update 12/01/02
I have have been reading some post by charter_HSD on some other boards and he seems to be the only charter employee that has been wanting to help! The news he has was not real good however. Part of the problem MAY be with low light on the fiber, which may delay installing new lines for more bandwidth! The real bad thing is if they have to get new equipment it may be months before its fixed!!! I cant wait that long. I hope it is something that can be fixed ASAP.
If you live anywhere in the North Alabama area you better think twice before getting charter or atleast wait a month or so and see how things are going.
Here are some of my test just to show you how bad it its... 50down and 59 up..........Thank god I am on the gold package if not they may have busted me down to a 14.4 :

Good news guys....after getting so mad the other night when I had below dialup speeds I had to do something..........So I fixed my problem! Yes! Here is how........
I got DSL and everything is GREAT!
