Charter's services are pretty reliable. Since I moved here, there has only been one or two outages(dns). Although charter lags behind other cable ISP's in digital services and HSD speed its pretty decent with upgrades happening pretty often. Currently I have basic tv, a DVR, and HSD. My bill totals about 150.00 a month:

I'm on a promo for 12 months in which we get all the channels and 16Mb internet.
    Digital Reciever(DVR): $6.95
    DVR service: $9.99
    * they do charge 2.96 for modem rental but I now have my own.

Installation was quick and painless. From my experience it all depends on the technician that comes. Some are good and knowledgeable and some juts don't want to there, luckily I had the latter. Customer Service is generally pretty good, but as with the technicians, there are CS's that just don't seem to know anything. Well I hope someone found this helpful!

    Interesting....

That you're able to have a DVR without Digital service.
What type of DVR do you have?
Where I live, you need to subscribe to Charter's Digital service to get a DVR(currently a Motorola "Moxi", but I have a SA8000 DVR).

The only thing that you need is basic in order to get any digital box.
