"At least I am able to purchase broadband."
"Other than dial-up, Charter is the ONLY provider where I live?!?"
"Mostly, it works. I'd rather be running DSL."

As stated, no other services/providers are available for my address. This "monopoly" seems to be only compartmentalized in my specific subdivision while about 4-5 blocks away, in either direction, AT&T DSL (God knows how many others) flourishes!!! [Not specific to this forum, although very interesting, is the fact that my only local phone service is Charter. My only available long distance carrier is Charter. And, Charter offers the only cable TV package in my "neck of the woods"! But thank you very much, at least, for satellite TV. Initially I ordered the 3.0m down package at $30 per month (1st 3 months at 19.95). Months later I upgraded to 5.0m down (intro. price of 29.95 for 1st 3 months). Finally, my half-wet brain (from all the drugs of the '60s and '70s! lol!) decided to plunge into Charter's premier 10m down (intro. price 39.95), now, 72.95 per month. Expensive?!? Ya think???
I'm leasing a cable modem from Charter for about 3.00 per month. Why? Well, if my equipment ever decides to "blow up", we at least will know it wasn't my 3rd party modem that caused it! Hahaha!
The leased modem is the extremely popular and world renown "Ambit" Model # U10C018. (Hell...it works!)
The Good: system is usually up. The Bad: Charter is Very Expensive. The Ugly: Charter, combined with the teeny, tiny, neighborhood where I live does not subscribe to some of the more positive tenets...I give you YAHOO where "You Always Have Other Options".
