Being the only HSI service that doesn't require a contract, I went to their office for the cheapest service they could give me. They quoted me 3000/256 kbps @ $25+bogus fees for 3 months. Fortunately, they were out of self-install kits, because I ended up ordering one from their webpage and getting the same speed @ $20+bogus fees for 6 months.
I ordered it all Friday morning, and it showed up either Wednesday or Thursday evening. When I set it up the following Sunday, I found the box had all the hardware I needed. The only snag was that the registration didn't want to "take". I had to call support to get one of them to run it for me. Though the process was simple, communicating with the rep was...difficult.
Afterward, I noticed that Charter redirected HTTP 404 errors to some kind of search page. One visit to »[DNS] 04-2005 Connection Problems - Discussion, and I got proper DNS servers.
The connection's been rock solid since.
