As of 3/2/09 We upgraded to 10MB. The tech's came out and swapped our modem with a Motorola Surf Board 5101. The install went fine, but our speeds are sporadic. Seems that our aging router is at fault. Get close to advertised speeds, and again I'm blaming this on our router. A direct connection to the modem gives full speed.
We got our service back in either 2001 or 2002 cause we were sick of dial-up, and back then it was the 384kb/128kb package. Now were at 10MB.
When we got our service is was $29.99 a month. The install went smooth and we were given a 3COM shark fin modem, and now have a Motorola Surf Board 5101.
The only bad experiences I remember is when our internet used to go out if it rained. Took a couple of years for Charter to get it fixed.
