    I have been on Cable Modem for almost 7 years (?)
    I have been with Insight Communications and now Charter Cable..
    The entire time I have used a Motorola/General Instrument Surfboard 3100

    I have almost never had a loss of service during my time as a customer of both Companies.

    But I currently have 3M Cable Modem at $55/mo. That is a little to much for me so time to move on.... to AT&T DSL Elite 6M @ $34/mo represents $252/year in my pocket

    Didn't they Eliminate 3M?

    I thought Charter Eliminated 3M/384k and bumped pre-existing customers to 5M/512k. Even so, the 6M/768k is cheaper, both in terms of value and in terms of actual price paid.

    If I were you I would've used DSL-Extreme instead. I don't like some of the things AT&T has done lately, as well as things they should do but don't.

    Yeah I thought the same thing, but then I thought it was just a promotional thing that they were trying to get customers to move to.

    Regardless dslreports bandwidth testing to Chicago only reports 3M. I don't believe we have such high bandwidth users that I wouldn't get the full 5M.

    I googled DSL-Extreme. Not bad but to hit their lower price points you have to contract it at 12 mo.

    I hate contracts and promotional pricing setups.
    Promotional pricing is kind of like a magazine subscription that automatically renews for you at a higher cost.....

    you need a new modem i dont think that one supports 5 meg

    On-line sites spec it at "38 Mbps"
