My install was challenging. I am a tech for Comcast. I moved about 2 blocks , 3 yr old development. The previous tenants had never had cable , so no drop from tap to house (across street). Suncontractor was sent , poor guy was only a few months in the job. I had new ground installed and all lines in the house ready. All equipment was plugged in and in place for him. All he needed to do was get a drop into the house and connect it to ground block. After that all that was needed was registration on equip.
I had to help the guy find a pull box in my side of the yard so he could get a drop in. He had no clue where to look or even where to start. I told him to put his fishtape in from the tap side to one of the conduits (the only empty one since all others have cable already) when it gets "stuck" to jab it a few times so I could hear it sticking in the pullbox. Poof it worked , took 15 mins to dig out the pullbox , then another 10 to get it through to the house.
Cut to the end , poor kid was not up to speed on his ability (then again I have higher standards on work/work ethic). I tip the kid $20 and get nothing , no thank you or anything. I should not have done that since I DID 85% of his job before he arrived. Then I have to "teach" him how to get a drop through a pullbox.
Now after a while of being installed , I have nightly trouble with HSI ... transmit pwr is at almost 60 coming off a 2 way split from ground block. This not due to any home wiring. It it the design flaw of Charter.
