This was the only broadband option at my current residence. Speed RATING is about the best in this area...just don't expect to achieve those speeds on a regular basis. Had the option to rent or buy a cable modem...chose to buy. Modem provided by cable co. (service electric) is a Motorola Surfboard 5100 ($60). While it is acceptable to get whatever modem you choose, you must register the modems mac address with them...I just chose the easier route. Installation went without a hitch (although I did take it upon myself to hook the modem up while the installer guy did his thing outside). Did I mention speeds fluctuate greatly? On a final note, its a shame internet doesn't come unbundled. The only way to get internet thru Prolog (service electric cable) is to sign up for cable television also. For someone that doesn't watch television (such as myself), it is a total waste of money having to pay for both services instead of just the one I need/want.
