I set this particular DSL service up for my senior citizen father who resides in Berea, KY. I'm in NJ and did just about all the configuration & assistance for my dad remotely thanks to very easy, straight forward instructions that came with the modem.

Service was ordered as 1.5M/384K and live in about 9 days from order date. An easy test and turn up despite having an older not very compatible PC. Total cost for the DSL was $25/mo. Modem was $50 but free after a rebate. We ended up saving a substantial amount of $ per month by combining the Dish Network TV service onto the same bill, bundling an LD package, and dropping his former Earthlink dialup service.

The Windstream DSL service was to be used with an older Windows 2000 based machine which was not compatible with the supplied Windstream setup CD. A call to Windstream's tech support both before the service was ordered (for additional technical information) and during the installation was extraordinary. These guys were U.S.-based, very knowledgable, and remarkably helpful! Seriously -- it was probably the best technical support experience I've had with any telco in YEARS. We had to set up the modem manually because of the older PC's incompatibility which took perhaps 10 minutes and went off without a hitch. I only wish I took the fellow's name down to send a letter of kudos to.

My dad is not by any means a "power user" so its difficult to really say how great the performance is over the course of time (this was installed in late November). He now has a new machine running XP which greatly helped, and is capable of verifying throughput via speedtests. Speed was right on (1.5M down, 384k up) last time we ran it.

What makes Windstream pleasantly surprising here is their unassuming and unpatronizing sales & tech support. They were very courteous, professional, and seemed genuinely interested in serving their customer.

Overall very pleased and would highly recommend based on this experience.
