    April 25th, 2008:

Speed consistency is still an issue, although connectivity is never a problem. So far I'm fairly content with my service (in that respect), although I might jump ship to cable once my contract is up. It's 2008 and the best DSL I can get is 3 Megabits per second downstream. I can get 10 Mbps on cable for the same price I'm paying now. If Windstream ever upgrades my RT (before my contract is up) and I can get 6+ Mbps, then I'll consider staying.

    September 24th, 2007:

I've been having latency issues with my connection for a couple of weeks now. I called and support sent out a tech to look at my connection. The tech said that my NID was wired incorrectly. Tech corrected the problem and I now have a stable and fast connection again. Kudos to the speedy service from tech support!

    August 13th, 2007:

Tech came out today to complete our install. Things didn't start out so well. He showed up, looked at the line, looked at the yard, went up to my wife and said "yep, we're gonna have to dig a hole through your neighbors driveway. We'll come back next week and do it". My wife (who is 9 months pregnant) told him no. She told him that this was the same thing the last 2 techs told her when they came out to finish the job, and that they will be getting our service up and running today.

The tech went and asked our neighbors if they would mind a cable running across their driveway until it is put into the ground. They thankfully agreed, and we now finally have service after 2 and a half weeks of no service, with one week of "we'll come back later and finish".

So while the installation of the service has been a nightmare, I am glad to report that the connection is rock solid, and fast. Let's hope ADSL2 is rolled out here in the upstate, and I'll be the first to sign up.

    August 10th 2007:

I was excited to finally get back on DSL, but I've already been met with some obstacles with Windstream. I ordered the 3.0/384 Greenstreak package. I also had to agree to a 12 month commitment, with a 200 dollar early termination fee.

I signed up for Greenstreak on the 25th of July. I was originally told that my installation would be completed and service started by August 6th. Then I was told it would be the 8th. Now I'm told it will be completed by the 13th of August. I didn't realize it would take that long to connect me to a DSLAM that I can see from my bedroom window...to give them credit though, our house is a brand new build, but the tech left on Wednesday after half the job was finished.

I will be updating this after the install is finished, but this is what's happening now.

    outgoing calls

Watch out for outgoing local calls, .10 per minute, could get pricey if you are not carefull. Free incoming calls are nice, along with 911 backup if youre cell phone goes out.

Yeah, it actually will be nice to have a 911 backup in case my VoIP ever fails me (got 'em on UPS backups).

    dslam

Delays can come from a number of things including, short handedness (real word?), weather, parts (pins), ect. Being able to see the dslam from your house doesnt make it a quicker process unfortunately. Please let us know if it gets delayed any further and how well its working after its live!

I contacted the office today, and they said I'm scheduled for 1-5pm installation time. Hopefully we can get up and running today, not having internet and phone service at my brand new house is getting old...hahaha. Hopefully, with any luck, ADSL2 will be deployed out here, and I can go 6.0/768. That would be awesome.
