Finally! Surewest brought fiber to my little neck of the woods. I was able to tell Comcast to take their crappy unreliable service and take a hike.

So far Surewest is excellent. The speed is constant and steady, no variance based on time of day. I opted for the 5Mb-u/5Mb-d plan. For $39.99 + taxes and no contract, it is much cheaper than naked HSI from Comcast (who wants about $62).

In the future I may consider getting the phone and TV as well from Surewest, but not right now.

The installation was successful and pretty quick. The installer was very knowledgeable and professional. Kept the place clean and tidy.

Now I have to go remove all those little red and yellow flags all over my yard

    why only 5mbit???

you could have gone with 10mbit for only 13.99 more
twice the speed for only a fraction of the cost...
it isn't exactly faster then comcast at the speed tier you chose. its just cheaper

    Re: why only 5mbit???

I know, but I do not need the extra speed, nor do I want to spend the extra money. I just want a good stable connection with constant promised speed. Comcast could not deliver that; download speeds were all over the charts, but usually in the low end.

    Re: why only 5mbit???

I don't blame you for going with 5mbit instead of 10 or higher.. the price for faster tier are kind of steep...
wish they get rid of 1 and 5 mbit
    10mbit for 29.99
    20mbit for 39.99
    50mbit for 49.99

There is no competition for surewest
unless you have someone to compete with, they are gonna continue these pricing scheme for at least a decade

    jade,
For what are those prices you posted? Are those symmetrical speeds from Surewest?

    *EDIT*
Just found the KC site and answered my own question. They are not symmetrical speeds.

That is the site but it is for cable internet, not fios.
    Do a speed test here
    »www.everestkc.net/trailblazeometer/
The only speed test that is close to advertise speed everywhere else I get much lower like my upload are far lower then download
    Ex. 10000kbps,5000kbps rather then 10000kbps,9650kbps
In some area in kansas its fios a bit confusing.

You haven't updated your review for almost 6 months

I'll do a speedtest in a minute. I am downloading the Win7 RC at 2312 KB/sec right now.

    Re: why only 5mbit???

    surewest also known as everestkc
everest kansas city is now known as surewest lol
california and kansas but only in select area

they can't even wire the entire state let alone most of the state in united states

cyberbeing has had surewest fios at 20mbps since 2005
this is 2009, its nearly 4 years for them to get to me.
so this is nothing new to your guy who had it for awhile.
it took surewest 3 months to wire my neighborhood which is just one mile radius and its gonna to take them another 3 months just to wire another 1 mile radius in another neighborhood

they are so slow... they only take one hour a day so something that would take a couple of week to complete take them a long time.

There is no competition... if they offer something faster and more expensive you will not see anything change or decrease in price in the near future.
