Well, Here at the retail store we have had DSL since Sept 99
IT took bellsouth sales office a couple of tries with delayed appontment to get installation done. I had to cancel appointment twice because of problems on our end. Installer who was contracted by bellsouth orginally ran lines to wrong computer but was able to fix that no problems.
Recently we had go done during week of christmas. Bellsouth told me it would take 2 weeks for tech to come out to check to see what was wrong. I was pissed... I spent hours on the phone talking to tech support to check what the problem was. Apparently tech has to contact another office in atlanta or somewhere to check some digital circuit or something I not sure what it was. But I was on hold with them for 45 min to hour just to get through and that is not acceptable to me.
When they came to fix the problem it seem to fix it self. DSL worked for a week and then died again. Come to find out there
was static on the line. I had 3 different techs out here from bellsouth line men to Lucent technology phone repair people trying to find out what was wrong. Finally second phone line tech came and found some stactic caused by loose connections he called a specical ADSL tech trouble shooter who did some rewiring on the line. Well it fix the static but still could not get dsl work. The dynamic sync light on the alcatel would flash red. Hooked up new modem and it started get good signals, green lights receiving and transmiting. But still could surf yet. IT took the tech 45 mins on the phone with Fastaccess people to find out that the had an outage in atlanta causing the problem. Well He told me to wait a couple of hours and try to surf and see if it would be up. Well since then that was last week it working fine now. It took bell 3 weeks to find out the problem and 6 differend tech from 2 telco companies to trace the source of the problem.
Dont't you just love how deregulation works. For 3 weeks I was told it the other guys fault they need to fix it not our responsibility... I spent hours on the phone talking to bell, and lucent technologies. Well I hope I dont have to do this again.
P.S. I cant dsl in my own home cause my line doest qualify so I dont know if this is a blessing or not... What do you think?
