Update 6/29/09 - Still ATT free. Ya'll can stop sending me those post cards addressed to "educated consumer". I've educated myself well enough to find better deals and service elsewhere.
Update 7/22/07 - ATT you suck!!!! My dry line DSL has been down for two weeks because you won't show up at the scheduled meeting between you and the CLEC
Update 5/15/07 - Still Bellsouth (AT&T) free... I got my father do drop Bellsouth since he only uses his cellphone for voice and was paying them nearly $65 per month for landline service and dialup. Now using local cable co for internet at $29 a month.Hey AT&T. When you start offering data without having to have POTS in the Atlanta area, I'll stop moving my friends and family over to services that betterfit their needs.
Update 12/17/06 - I've been Bellsouth free at my place for a few years now and disconnected their lines at my in-laws place right at a year ago today. I would have liked to have kept their DSL over there but not being able to get it without POTS is a deal breaker for me. They use their cell phones 90% of the time thus rendering a land line virtually useless. Charter cable and the Sunrocket 2 year for $199 VOIP has been a good replacement at a much better price.
Update 9/14/05 - Well I had Bellsouth DSL put in at my in-laws place. I'm pleased with their pricing now as it seems more competitive and speed choices are somewhat better. After two weeks it has shown to be fairly reliable and for a generic residential account they will be satisfied.
I would like to see more choices in reagards to business class DSL. Still can't figure out why they charge nearly $300 for a 768/512 ADSL line when I can get a 6000/768 line from Comcast for $95 or a 6000/768 dry line DSL package from several Covad resellers for under $100 also.
This is in 2001...
March 16th - Ordered DSL service
March 23rd - Line provisioned. Already had ethernet modem in hand. Connected and was good to go. Now I can't receive phone calls on line DSL is connected to. Place call to POTS service for repair.
March 24th - Phone fixed. No sync on DSL. Call DSL repair and go through the hoops over phone. I'm not a monkey so don't put me in that circus again. Schedule contractor to come out and inspect.
March 29th - Contractor comes out and tells me there is no sync at the house. No joke buddy. That's what I told them over the phone. He said he was going to roll a truck tomorrow. Thanks buddy, that's what I asked for in the first place.
March 30th - Truck rolled. Sync again and surfing.
April 12th - Phone goofing up again. Call POTS service for repair. Appointment scheduled for today, April 13th.
April 13th - 10:00am - DSL sync goes down. 10:12am - Get call from POTS tech telling me phone is repaired. Let him know he disconnected my DSL and requested him to reconnect. He informs me that isn't his job and I would have to call DSL support. Come on man. He disconnected it, he should put it back. Contact DSL support. Tell them the story and they still guide me through the hoops. I repeat... I'm not a monkey so leave me out of this circus.... They make decision to roll truck to NID to check for sync. This of course after checking my computer for a half hour. What idiots..... Of course the repair will be next week sometime. They tear the system up in two minutes but I have to wait a week to get repaired. Give me a break. This system has operated a total of two weeks out of the month and I am probably expected to pay full price....
April 14th - 12:30pm - Well my 8:00am to 12:00pm window has come and gone. Haven't seen BS, haven't heard from BS and will likely never see BS today. My odds are that it won't get repaired until mid week.....
April 14th - 4:15pm - Well service is back. I had to put a lot of heat on Bellsouth phone repair to get them to repair what they broke. I knew that if I had to wait on the helpdesk for support is was going to be another week. Kudos to the nice DSL repair tech that came out and fixed it and for volunteering a number to contact real DSL support in south Florida when this happens again. She let me know that this has been an ongoing battle. The POTS technicians just disconnect customers without contacting DSL for reason or assistance. The POTS technician that was out here last week told me the same thing. If they do a repair, they disconnect the DSL, repair the line and walk away. Not their concern. I feel bad for the nice lady at BS phone repair but complacency doesn't always get the job done with them. I had to pull out some strong words before she would get me to someone useful. Next time the phone goes out I'll leave it out. I'm going wireless......
Update 8/5/03 - Bellsouth is GONE. Switched to Britsys (Worldcom reseller) and got a 1500/768 w/ static IP for LESS that what Bellsouth was charging me for 256/128 best effort service.
Update 5/23/05 - Bellsouth is still gone. DSL from Britsys (now DNS-LLC.com) still rock sold and twice as fast as anything Bellsouth offers. Now on a dry line also so Bellsouth POTS is history. So now I've got a 6000/768 dry line DSL and VOIP with unlimited calling for less than Hellsouths 3.0meg plan and ther unlimited long distance phone service.

| stop whining Haha, you're blaming AT&T because you went througha CLEC. It is the CLEC's job to coordinate the repair, and of course they'll blame AT&T/BellSouth everytime, who wouldn't? Why not switch to dry line DSL direct through AT&T and stop whiing about it? I bet your customer service will increase. -- **Disclaimer** My views represent only what the voices in my head tell me. | |
