I currently have no other choices for broadband. But consider this to see if can tell how I feel about Hughes. I work from home, I have to use VPNs and metaframe connections to other locations. I realize that satellites are not good with this, but Hughes assured me, before I became an informed consumer, that their system worked perfectly with these applications. Well guess what, it does not.
I am presently getting a quote to have a tower built on my property to allow a WISP to broadcast to my house and to my neighbors. The cost of the tower, installed is going to be just over $4,000 (yes thousand). I will have that tower up in the next couple of months because I can not deal with Hughes any longer.
Before you buy any satellite service, make certain that you cannot secure wireless service by any means. I'm spending a huge amount of money, you will too if you stick it out with a sat provided for any length of time. The wireless guys are aggressive. Seek them out, you may be surprised at what is available.
If you have no other choice but to buy a Sat. Do not blindly accept any installer. Require references and check ALL the references. I firmly believe that the few people that have good things to say about Hughes all got lucky and had a truely good installer.
