We've had cable and dsl where we lived before, but neither is available here. The dialup is even bad! So we decided to try out Hughes. We got everything ordered and installed, but the speeds were horrible. I called tech support and was told that I had used too much bandwidth and was being cut back for the next 24 hours. After 2 days I was still downloading at less than 28 kpbs and called back.

I still didn't get any help as they said my router, which they installed, was the issue. They told me to unplug it and let it is for 24 hours, then try it again. Still same speeds. I called a third time and they scheduled a tech to come out.

The tech that came out was the only competent person I dealt with. It turns out that the dish was not pointed at the correct satellite, and I was not set on the correct satellite either. After the tech finished updating, I actually had good download speed. Latency was still always over 600ms, so my games were completely unplayable. I ended up canceling and going back to dial up. The speed is nice, but not worth 8 times the cost of dial up. Along with all the drawbacks of being throttled WHEN you exceed the cap, horrid latency and total loss of service on cloudy days.
