I can deal with it being a little slow. I can deal with crappy ping times. Ive gotten around no UDP packets.
The worse part of all is the cap. And your throttled down at LESS then 56K speeds. I'm lucky to connect to my IM service and send IM's down the line. It might as well be completely off.
Also, your limited for a full 24 hours. So if you reach the cap at 7:00pm tonight then it wont come back up until 7:00pm tomorrow night. What a load of crap.

At 80 bux a month for a 1.5mbps (that i have never been close to), and a 350MB a day cap, it should be against the law to provide such crappy service.
Never again.

HughesNet

I only use it in the NC rural mountains because the only other choice is dialup. My cost is $60/mo. after paying install up front.
re caps, they keep me from watching much video. But they do allow one free token to restore each month and you can purchase additional tokens for $5. So you don't have to live with throttle for long if it is critical.

Re: HughesNet

Yep, that's the same situation here.
I am putting up a 95ft tower so I can get over a hill and get wireless rural internet.
It sucks when you are trying to work on a customers computer and you cant download many updates or software.

The token is helpful yes but to me it's also an admission of available bandwidth to their users. After all if everyone capped out and used their token wouldn't that put an even higher load on their system ?

Hughsnet service

My typical experience are 10-37K downloads during the day, nothing during the evening, and 80-130K downloads during the early morning hours. I have ver rarely seen over 200K. Nothing like the 1.5M I pay for.

Re: Hughsnet service

You do realise that the spped of the connection and the download speed are 2 different things, right? Well sort of, if you notice the speed is listed as 1.5 Mb/s thats megabits and not 1.5MB/s thats megabytes. 1.5 Mb/s will translate into around 150 KB/s actual download speed. All ISP's use this scale if you notice. To actually get 1.5 MB/s download you would need 10 - 12 Mb/s service.
