I recently finished my two year contract with Shaw. I was paying $53/month+tax for Internet 300. I thought that was a pretty solid deal.
Recently they came out with packages that offer much faster upload speeds (100mbps). They had offered me $60/month to keep my current package or $70/month for Internet 600 which came with a new modem and faster upload speeds. Given that I work from home sometimes, the faster upload was a definite yes. $70 seemed reasonable for a package that fast.
Got the modem in a few days (a Technicolour XB6). I did have a problem installing it. After messaging Shaw back and forth for an hour I found out that the modem was still registered to another customer. They asked me to call customer service the next day. I did, they fixed the problem in 15 minutes, and when I got home I power cycled the modem and it worked great.
Like my old Internet 300 package I'm getting full speeds on my new 600 package. The package was so fast my old router couldn't keep up. So far the built in router from Shaw seems to be doing decent enough.
Overall I find Shaw to be pretty good. Other than the above mentioned install issue, it's been rock solid the entire time. No downtime that I can recall, and it always runs at full speed.
I was going to switch to Telus Fibre but they're slow as molasses in getting fibre here. They told me it might be here in fall. Wasn't going to pay full non-contracted price with Shaw while I wait for Telus to figure out their stuff. Shaw has the faster speeds, they get 2 more years of my business. Shaw's promo deals aren't quite as good as as the past few years, but the renewal deals are still decent enough. Thanks Shaw

Just tell me a number...I too have been contacted by Shaw over my dowload. I asked the simple question, when was too much...and they didn't give me a number. I pushed to know when was too much, and they said they looked back over previous months to see if you have been 'abusing'. As for their use, I signed up when it was the @Home network, so I never signed that contract.
Now, to top it off, my mom had a Shaw modem and it was unplugged before she became ill, and 3 months later I returned it for her and asked for a rebate. They were trying to charge me for time even after the cable had been canceled. Their billing department said they could only look at the last month??? I call BS !!
Like I told them, I will download whatever I want, and if they complain, I want proof I have hampered the system (which is why they impose these limits in the first place), no proof....no limit !!

100% reliability?I'm surprised your connection reliability is at 100%. How congested is your node if at all?. Do u get full speed 24/7? and has your internet not randomly cut out on you a few times (more then once every 3 months is to much imo, but i wish it was no more then once a year, announced in advance for no longer then 4 hours.) i have probably had mine go out 5-8 times in the 8 months i have been with Shaw. though im hoping, and have high hopes that after my last unannounced cmts upgrade that it does not cut out for a very long time.

I agree - it's the price increasesI've been very happy with Shaw's cable internet service. It's very reliable, and performance on my node has been consistently good for years. But the steady price increases at way above the inflation rate for the same old service are a constant annoyance. Part of the problem is the silly new-customer and customer-retention deals being offered. The initial deal for me was $10/month for a year. Since then I've been on the point of leaving twice, and each time Shaw has offered me a retention deal that was more than half off what I was paying. But this time the offer came too late, and I've already made other arrangements. Why can't they just offer reasonable rates to everyone in the first place and quit this let's-make-a-deal game?
