We have been using Shaw for about 3 years now at about $76 a month that includes basic cable, Tier 2, and internet which is $32. Since we got Shaw Digital phone in April the bill went to $113 a month.
When we started using Shaw High-Speed we had the old Terapro Terayon modem and speeds were quite low. So when we complained, a few days later they e-mailed us saying that they were doing network upgrades in the area and that helped a little. Then in about June, 2006 our city (Chilliwack) got DOCSIS and we got the new Motorola Surfboard 5101 modem. That must have been the best thing I ever did to improve my speeds. Now I have consistent high speeds (4958down 489 up) all throughout the day.
There was only one time we had our internet go down but that was only a few hours, and we actually drove by the problem area and saw them fix it (we think there was a fibre optic cut). In fact our internet has been up more than our Telus phone line. Any issue we had with our TV service was also fixed quickly and for free. The only real thing I have to complain about is that in the fall of 2006 the speeds were slow in the whole Fraser valley for a few months (this happened when they upgraded the i-extreme speeds to 10mbit), but that has since been resolved.
It generally takes about 0-5 minutes to get someone on the line for tech support (when we ordered digital phone we got someone instantly) When I got the rep on the phone they were very courteous, and my problem was quickly resolved. At one point we needed an amp put in the line because the TV quality was snowy, so Shaw came and installed one for free. It took them about ½ hour and they answered any questions we had.
In mid-April 2007 we got Shaw Digital Phone Lite installed, we ordered it end of March, took them a while since it was just released and they had to port our number over from Telus. When they came to install it, they were on time and there were two people (one was finished early that day). They got right to work and found that the only place they could place it was in the basement which was finished. There was no cable, phone, and electrical jack together so they had to go through two walls and under some carpet. They did a very good job and you would never notice that they put anything though there. Once in was installed they tested it and everything worked fine. And then they left, it took 2 guys about two hours to install it. The modem we got was a Motorola Surfboard SBV5120 with the PB1000 8 hour battery pack. We have found the Shaw phone far better than Telus, it even shows the telephone number from people in Europe and they charge per 15sec (4cents per min) so a 30 sec call is only 2cents. We mainly got it because of Price, Telus sucks, and its one bill. I give it two thumbs way up.
Overall Shaw gives us good quality service, for a good price and we are very satisfied customers.
*UPDATE JUNE 18, 2008*
We have now had shaw phone for over a year. It has been working great, except for a bit we had some echo issues, but that was resolved with them putting in a new Arris modem. Our internet connection has remained stable, just going down once for a few hours. Our speeds are still near the advertised speed during most of the day. It slows down a bit, during peak times, but thats not much of a problem. TV service has gotten slightly more expensive, but its still good. The only problem is when there is really bad weather like snow, it takes them a while to clean the dishes, so some channels may not work for a while.
