Got the 25meg Extreme...very good speeds. Had to switch to an outside news supplier. Very happy.

Motorola equipment. Guy showed up on time. Tested signal strength. Good anti-spam on their mail server. Very very few outages. Bundled my HDTV, Extreme Internet and Shaw phone.
Shaw has bumped up the speed on the Extreme account to 25mbps. I regularly get between 22mbps and 24mbps. Very happy.
I now have outside Newsgroup access.
Had one of distro boxes go bad up the road. It was fixed quickly with 3 trucks and 4 guys working on it.
Then a few months ago a big piece of equipment went bad (TV was totally useless and Net access was slow with millions of dropped packets. That took them a week to fix. I was NOT happy about that.
P2P is now not throttled.
All in all still quite happy with Shaw.
[EDIT May 2014] Moved to 50meg broadband. Actually getting 104meg DOWN and 5.25meg UP! And this isn't to a local server here in Vancouver but to the Shaw server in Calgary. Shaw Tech I talked to out on the street seems to think my complex is on it's own node thus the incredible speeds.
VERY happy!

Telus is no better. Shaw isn't charging fairly, but Telus is just as bad. Also the overage fees on Telus are $2/GB for their version of Extreme whereas Shaw is $1/GB. While that is still FAR too high, it is cheaper than Telus. I have also had consistently better speeds (closer or over my plan) with Shaw then I do on my DSL connection
They can't distinguish between TV and Internet traffic and treat both as the same. Their network can also handle both unlike Shaw, which is at capacity once again. They also offer 25% more bandwidth per month, which ends up being cheaper than Shaw when comparing the same amount of data.

8:04:43 PM : Paul: Initial Question/Comment: My question is about overage fees with Telus Internet. According to this video released last month, Telus will not be charging usage based fees for going over caps: (URL removed) What is the truth? I keep hearing that Telus does and doesn't.

8:39:23 PM : Mizhel: Hello Paul.
8:39:34 PM : Mizhel: May I please start with the name on the Account, Telephone Number and Service Address.
8:42:49 PM : Paul: I don't have an account
8:43:03 PM : Paul: I am thinking of switching
8:43:12 PM : Paul: I am just curious about UBB
8:44:01 PM : Mizhel: While some of our competitors may have made changes to their bandwidth policy, TELUS has not. We still do not charge for anything over the bandwidth limit.
8:44:29 PM : Paul: But it says on your website that you charge $2 per GB for going over
8:44:40 PM : Paul: I don't understand this conflict of policies
8:45:04 PM : Paul: someone on the phone said you do charge, the TV interview and you are saying Telus does not
8:45:11 PM : Mizhel: Yes, although it says the it's $2 per GB , we still do not charge for it.
8:45:19 PM : Paul: Okay
8:45:31 PM : Paul: what happens if one does go over that limit?
8:45:47 PM : Paul: I have on occasion with Shaw, but not regularly
8:46:37 PM : Mizhel: They still won't charge you.
8:47:25 PM : Paul: will I get my service cut off or get a warning or something?
8:48:37 PM : Mizhel: They will send you a warning.
You are paying $45 for 15mbps internet access? That is double of what you should be paying! One call to Telus will fix that.
No I'm not paying $45/month....that's just the advertized price. I have my HDTV, Internet and phone all bundled.
Extreme come with 100gig/month. I'm a power user but not for media. I don't stream video. The closest I have been to the limit was about 60gig.
Telus.....you're kidding, right?
If I had my choice of providers I would use Bell TV (was ExpressVu) for TV. I was a customer for 15 years and had no trouble at all. Where I live now does not allow sat dishes.
For an ISP I have been very happy with Shaw.
The only business I would give Telus is a land line phone.
it is possible you are only being charged for bb50 and they accidentally provisioned your modem at bb100 speeds. however no one who is on the 50 will ever just get 104/5.25 because there complex is on its own node.
