"It's better than sympatico since it's cable and doesn't need telephone lines (which can be old and will screw up the ADSLsignal)"
"Throttling for whatever you need the Internet most. (ping is spikey)"
"Get it if there isn't anything better."

I am using rogers but i am not satisfied in terms of ping (latency) reliability and throttling.
Seems to me that rogers will throttle everything you need the internet for if it uses a lot of bandwidth. Unfortunately there's nothing better, sympatico didn't throttle (but now they do as well!) and has terrible service in my area because of the old landlines.
Ping is usually ok, but it could be much better, sometimes i ping 60 to chicago servers when i should in fact ping around 20. This is usually due to bad routing that rogers takes for my packets. There are usually over 15 hops to these bad latency servers, when there should be way below 15.

1 edit | Your information is incorrect... Bell does in fact throttle. I'm not sure if you've been neglecting the front news page here on DSLR, but Bell has not only started throttling their own customers but also wholesalers. They are currently under investigation by the CRTC.
As for your ping times, they are far from horrible. Sure they're a tad on the high side, but those ping times would hardly cause severe issues with everyday browsing and even casual gaming.
Side note: I'm not saying Rogers is perfect, but they are by fair the lesser of 2 evils, at least around here. I get the full advertised 10 megabits on the Extreme profile without so much as even a hiccup. Bell refuses to upgrade my area or even the majority of my city, and it is hardly tiny (London). I gave Bell 5+ years to show some sort of effort to better their service, and after paying for 5 megabit connection and only receiving 1.5 megabit on a GOOD day, I quickly realized that DSL was going nowhere in my city.

| Rogers IS terrible I had their high speed cable service for years. The service got worse and worse. Their tech support is close to useless and arrogant to boot. It kills me that Rogers is showing ads on TV saying that "Rogers is the fastest ... period". Rogers' service is not only slow and bawky, it is also unreliable and grossly over-priced. I finally got fed up and switched to Teksavvy. I've been with Teksavvy almost a year - service has been fantastic and the price is much more reasonable. | |
