(ratings above consensus)

I was previously a Bell Sympatico customer and switched to Rogers after 6 weeks of run-around (and three modems later). That was about six years ago; no doubt Bell has improved.

Over the years,I have progressed to Rogers Extreme Plus and own my own Motorola Surfboard modem (purchased from Rogers in Jun 2004). The service is rated "18 mbps down/1mbps up"; I consistently score near 17 mbps/950 kbps using the test (almost) daily and recorded in the dslreports.com database. In general, I do not encounter the "slowdowns" that other report with cable technology. I live in downtown Toronto where I would expect the local neighbourhood is likely to be congested; but that's not my experience.

The install process was pretty simple at the original location; and when I moved, the service was up and running quickly. Except for (very) occasional brief outages, I've really not experienced any hassles other than some DNS problems reported elsewhere by Rogers users.

Anyone looking for lots of speed and bandwidth but wants to save some money should strongly consider the Extreme option -- saving $40/mth but getting the full measure of the 10 mbps. I use the Internet a lot (including significant amounts of ftp but no p2p); I am solidly satisfied.

I have three computers (1 desktop, two laptops) and two routers delivering secured wireless signal around my home. It all works reliably.

I save about $12 from the full price because I own my modem and get a 10% discount based on other bundled services.

I can't comment on service issues -- particularly call centre folk -- since I haven't had any reason to call about Internet specifically. I have found myself scratching my head sometimes using online tools and help info (how to find master account info; where are my Yahoo! groups; how do I register for Flickr Pro; etc).

    So, a pretty happy camper.

    Interesting...

It seems they only give their premium customers a good connection.

No, I don't believe that's true, actually. Rogers started to advertise "Fastest and Most Reliable. Period." and backed it up with Comscore research. I don't think they could make such claims if they didn't deliver. They have around 1.5 million broadband customers and if they "only gave good connections to premium customers" Rogers would be a secondary player only.

Anyway, I stand by my long term experience of excellent speed and reliability which for me translates into full value for money.
