Have subscribed to Starpower >> RCN phone/cable tv/internet for over 6 years now (and before that, Starpower dial-up).
Internet speed is good, and free upgrades over the years have been nice. It started as 1.5/800 but has been upgraded free to 3/800 then 5/800 and now it's 7.6/800. At one point they were trialing and gave me free 20/2.
I hate cable boxes... why would you need a device that wastes space, has features I never use, and makes channel surfing slow. No comment on HDTV as I don't own one.
Can only remember 2 short cable outages over the years, otherwise stable.
Biggest problem: It took YEARS for RCN to fix a faulty backup battery in the local phone node... meaning I had no phone service during or for days after a power outage. After Hurricane Isabel, I had no power for 4 days and no phone for 5. My neighbors w/ Verizon had no power for 4 days and no phone for ZERO days. Every time I had a power outage I called tech support and the promised to send a tech. Most of the time they never came. The one time someone actually showed up to my house he declared that you weren't supposed to have phone service in a power outage and that there was no such thing as a power backup for phone service. (A LIE)
I was never able to get it resolved over the phone, only when one of the RCN staff on the forums started poking did it get fixed. »Telephone Service Dies This was years after I first reported the problem to tech support.
I will switch to FiOS when it comes if I can get a similar package deal.
