    I live in the Carlsbad, NM area and can't believe I get close to 8.0 Mb/s down ( 560 kb/s up) when I originally ordered the Sonic package which advertised for 5.0 down. After the 12 month deal is up, the price will revert to $40/month but that isn't bad because that's what DSL charges and the fastest they have is 3.0 down.

    I haven't had any down time that I'm aware of except once during a major storm but that happened during the middle of the night.

    I can't complain about the service except their Usenet offering which is buggy. You don't have to log in for that service but half the time my newsreader tells me that "authentication is required" and won't allow any downloading. Plus, it's very slow and averages 35 kb/s on each connection.

    Needless to say, I won't be going back to DSL unless the phone company brings FTTH here or something that can compete with the speed of cable.

    For the past month I have been getting less than 50 Kb/s. horrible speeds. I used to get in upwards of 5 mb/s, no longer. The help desk indicates that there are several power outages here in Carlsbad. How long does it take to correct these?

    I've only experienced one such incident in the past 8 months and I'm not sure how long it took since it happened late at night as I was going to bed. Everything was ok in the morning, however.

    Their service is reliable and has been for the 2 years I've had them. I don't know why you're only getting 50 kb/s down now. That only happens to me when I get on Usenet not when I surf or download elsewhere.
