Thanks for the heads up debbieandjon!

heh . . .don't know who I am addressing now, debbie or jon, lol.

Anyways . . .I just called Cox here in San Diego and subscribed to the Service Assurance Plan and mine is only $2.95 a month. I have coaxial cable that is over seven years old for my cable TV (digital since 1999), a signal booster installed in my living room for my HSI, my modem being in the back bedroom (it is not covered though because I bought my own and not from Cox, although Cox supports it), and two digital phones.

It is good to know that all of my connections and wiring are now covered, and $2.95 is a drop in the bucket compared having to pay for a tech to make a home call!

Thanks again!

service assurance does not cover everything.

your service assurance plan(also known as the csap)does not cover your modem. the csap waives any service visits that are not cox related. once upon a time for many years, cox would respond to any and every customer issue, whether or not it was cox related and fix problems without charge - tv not tuned to ch.3 with a cable box, cable unplugged from the back of the tv set, dog chewed line on side of house--again!! i know this, because i responded to hundreds of these service calls as a cox sd tech. when times got tough and push came to shove, cox decided that they would actually charge for service visits where cox's equipment nor service drop were at fault. fyi, since inside cable and telephone have been federally deregulated for some years now, it has been the subscribers right and responsibility to maintain their own lines. because you have the csap, it doesn't mean that cox will replace or reroute your lines on a whim, it just means that your service trip will be waived and cable related problems will be fixed -- whethe that means replacing a fitting or splitter, or rerunning the line from the tap to your modem or tv---IF NECESSARY. - but the service assurance plan does not cover your modem. if you are renting a modem from cox, you're not liable anyways. as i'm no longer with the company, i can say that i wouldn't pay for the csap. at 3 or 4 dollars a month, that is more than i would pay for any legitimate service visits over the course of a year or two or three.

Preferred plan still $42 on my latest bill

I just got my bill and it's still $42 (Nellie Gail Ranch, Laguna Hills) but I don't have any inside wiring plan and I have VoCable and CATV.

When did your price increase take effect? I've gotten no notice of it and the OCPV site still shows the rate I pay for Preferred ($42) »www.cox.com/ocpv/highspe ··· cing.asp

So, let me guess… We will most likely get another post next November when your promo rolls off huh? Over the 11 1/2 years of your post, you've had a few rate increases… WHICH EVERY COMPANY HAS DONE… Do you complain about the prices on restaurant/Fast food blogs because the Big Mac/Whopper are no longer .99 cents? From 1mbps - 50mbps and your rates went up.. How dare they.

Re: HHMMM133;.

It is certainly time to complain when those rate increases come faster than competitors and are accompanied with caps that do not increase along with the prices. It is also time to complain when you are always the last market to get upgrades and continually pay the same prices for speeds far below other Cox markets.

It is not about price increases, it comes to where Cox is compared to their industry peers and in that Cox is lacking. Just today I finally gave up after 35 minutes on hold for a tv tech support issue. I have been trying to get through to Cox for 3 days only to be compelled to rot on hold far longer than I have time for. Tried the online chat to the same result...completely abandoned after the introductions.

It may be hard for you to contemplate but as an ARPU customer running $335 per month, I expect better as, GASP, do some others.

Re: HHMMM133;.

In your title you wrote that Cox has a local monopoly - - if so, then what competitors are you talking about in your comments? They cannot be a monopoly if they have competitors. BTW, I thought this was an HSI (High Speed Internet) forum. Wouldn't your comments on television support be better addressed in a cable television forum?

Re: HHMMM133;.

There aren't any competitors at this location that offer 5+ mbps high speed. Fiber is not available. DSL connections do not offer more than 3 - 5 mbps.

Television support was never mentioned.

Dont understand your comments

How can cox be held responsible if there is no competition? Perhaps Cox should pull out as probably your service is provided at a loss to their business? No, I am not a Cox employee -- just someone that does not understand some of the comments about any business, especially Internet or Wireless and one "expects" it to be very low cost or free. Prediction (see my other posts) -- we are entering a new era for "pay for what your use" -- unlimited is dead. Not enough $$ to compensate to get users. You have a choice -- cancel your service or move to an area that has lots of options. You have a choice for TV, go OTA or move to Satellite.

Negative comments posted for at least 14 years

Looks like you've been a Cox OC customer for many years, at least 14 per your BB Reports posts. I see you submit negative Cox reviews on a regular basis. I don't work at Cox anymore, but I've only seen this consistent negativity from a couple users over a 14-16 year period. I just don't consider your experiences to be common.

COX HSI raised my ISP bill $20 in 8 months

I do not bundle my services, internet is the only service I purchase from COX. We've been with them for about 15 years (they're virtually the only high-speed ISP in the major PHX area). I have Ooma for home phone. In December, 2015 I was paying $53.99 monthly. By August they had raised that to $73.99, a $20 increase in eight months! I called them to see if I could get them to lower that rate. The rep was snotty, and boasted that my only other choice where I live is CenturyLink's 1.5 Mbps service, and no- they won't lower my rate.

They can see that I use Ooma. So I wonder if they're trying to make it hard for me to resist getting a discount by bundling to lower my ISP rate. If there were a viable alternative, I would switch from this greedy, unethical company in a millisecond. I find it sad that they can get away with the tactics they employ. However, they had one of their lobbyists on the Corporation Commission here in AZ until a few months ago, when the AG said it's against the law. The former AG did nothing about it during his term. It's a crooked system.

Last month my speed was 65 Mbps according to DSL reports. We just had an outage that lasted for more than 4 hours. Now my speed is 52 Mbps. Maybe it'll go back up when people stop trying to catch up with lost work. But I wouldn't count on it. COX has never been accused of doing anything fairly.

Absent Competition

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
I do find it odd that intel1212 and SDKiwi are in the COX corner...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Reread Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission Tom Wheeler's statement above:

"History proves that absent competition a predominant position in the market such as yours creates economic incentives to use that market power to protect your traditional business in a way that is ultimately harmful to consumers," he said. "Your challenge will be to overcome the temptation to use your predominant position in broadband to protect your traditional cable business." Tom Wheeler

Re: Need Cox alternative in South Orange County

I'm confused. From your speedtest, seems like you're getting the service you're paying for. Why does your review change everyday? Are you still having issues?

Edit: Thought this was on your review. You're review shows a poor connection reliability so I assumed you were having issues as well...

I hate COX

Went to the local Cox office main to put my Cox cable service on vacation while I was out of the country for 7 weeks. During my vacation Cox abruptly disconnected my cable service, turned off my Cox Internet service and charged me for two "stolen" cable boxes and an early termination fee. Total bill for all of this was over $800 on auto pay. Even now, with over two hours on the phone with Cox on various dates, some even from Dubai, my account is still completely and totally hosed. That's why I hate Cox.

As bad as Cox is...

As bad as Cox is, I'm endlessly thankful I don't live in a Comcast-only area. I have friends/relatives in other parts of the country who *are* stuck with Comcast (if they want a reasonable internet connection speed) and who constantly tell me via Facebook/email about their outages/idiotic support/etc. My ONLY gripe about Cox is they keep raising the price, seemingly like every couple of months. We dumped Cox for tv about 2 years ago and we only have the preferred tier internet. I recently read that our bill is going up this month from $78 to $83/mo, with no benefit to me....

if satan ran an ISP or cable company...

well, actually he'd probably be too embarrassed to: execute a contract with his customers and then, well, shucks, decide to break it by upping the price...oh...whenever; sing 'more, more, more' while he gave you 'less, less, less' speed, less choice and less service, and; throttle customers the day after they stupidly signed up for faster service. yeah, sorry satan, not fair of me. cox is far worse than you. i apologize.
