    My Other Reviews·Vonage

7-5-07 Update>>>Back to Cox HSI after spending 11 months in Texas (got back December 1st 2006 really). Service is faster than when I left . . .I had 9000/768 when I left and now I have a 7000/512 plan that with Cox's Speed Boost generally gives me well over 11,000 down. That cool.

Cox is still the greatest in my book!

    UPDATE 7-5-07

Days until installation after my initial order were only two. The guy just did the wiring (which I found out almost 5 years later, was done incorrectly, lol) and I did the actual connection to my computer. Of course it was a dynamic IP which uses DHCP to refresh the DNS server numbers. Personally I often update the DNS IP's myself manually.

Tech support is still non-existent with the majority of Tier I techs reading off of a paper posted in their cubicle. Tier Two techs are not much better. Both levels still need more training, not enough Tier One customer service reps are very friendly, and those that are really make one's day, lol. Tier Two techs are very hard to reach, the Tier One's often refusing to escalate your complaint/question.

9-16-05 EDIT>>>The Tier One techs are now much better at answering questions and the two times I did have to call Cox in the past 5 years I used the automated help system while on hold to speak to a tech, and I was able to fix the problem with the automated system and not a live tech!

The only real fault besides the lousy email service and that could use some improvement about Cox HSI is that their tech support which should be more knowledgeable. I never call because I know that I will not get any logical answers! I get more answers to my questions (when I have them) right here at Broadband Reports!

I still recommend that everybody who is a serious 24/7 user with multiple boxes (or just one) go with Cox HSI . . .buy their own cable modem which will cut $10 a month from your monthly bill. Buying your own modem pays for itself in the long run! Also a good router.

Also, the Premiere speed of 5000/768 is a good deal if you already are signed up for the Cox Combo (Digital Cable, Digital Phone and standard Cox HSI. The difference is about $15 but if you like fast loading web images and do not like to sit and wait for the complete page to load, the Premiere High Speed Internet is for you!

I have also found that Cox HSI works just super with Wi-Fi.
