    UPDATE 12/14/2007:

I recently moved back to Oklahoma City and got Cox about 2 months ago. I was able to talk Cox down to $42.95 for 12/1 speeds due to UVERSE being in Oklahoma City.

For the first month, I had several outages lasting more than 2 hours. I was not getting my advertised speeds during peak usage times. It was frustrating. Then, something changed. For the past month I've had 100% uptime and have been exceeding the advertised speeds. I have downloaded way more than the usage cap allows but have not heard a thing about it. I've been overall pretty happy with Cox this time around. I am in the process of having UVERSE installed to compare alongside Cox, so I'll be updating this soon.

UPDATE: I could not be more thrilled with my speed. I'm getting 5/768 for $40 a month (in 3 months it will go to $55 a month...but still a heck of a value!)

I am a bit disappointed with Cox. They have neglected a part of Cox called "middle america Cox..." People in Arkansas, parts of Louisiana and Texas, and a few others, are stuck on 1024/128 for the SAME PRICE WE PAY for 4/512! That's not right. Although I have my speed, I'm very disappointed with the way Cox is treating those "outcasts" of the Cox community. It's just not right.

    UPDATE: 01/21/04

Well, Pings and Tracerts were disabled for a long time. It sucked. Long after the engineers here said pings have been restored to the whole state...I still couldn't. I complained about it on the forums, and the engineers still insisted it was something on my end. I tried with 3 different computers, one Linux, one WinXP, and one Mac. Even disco'd from the router and turned off all firewalls. Still no go. Then one day it was MYSTERIOUSLY restored. Whatever, it's back, I'm happy.

Speeds have been slower lately. I used to average 3.0-3.3 down and right at 250-256 up. Now I never get more than 180 up and about 2.8 down. Sometimes less.

I'm beginning to look at other options at this time.

    UPDATE: 6/28/03

Well, I ran into a rough spot on Cox HSI. It got to a point where my pings were thru the roof and even surfing the web was really slow. After several calls to tech support and being told to "reboot your modem," I came across one of the techs in the Cox forum here. He was able to look into the situation and get it resolved. things are back to normal and working great.

    UPDATE: 4/14/02

Things are still GREAT. I'm in a new apartment in a different part of town, and speedtests are outstanding, as usual. Pings are steady around 30ms while playing Quake 3 Arena. Downtime? NEVER. I just couldn't be more happy with the product that Cox provides to me. I've had SBC dsl, and for the same price, it doesn't even come close. I'll be a Cox customer as long as I'm in OKC!

I have been a Cox member since before the conversion over from Road Runner. I could not be happier with Cox HSI. They have been a great ISP, and service is outstanding. I ordered the service on a Thursday evening-an appointment was made for the following afternoon. The installer showed up 5 minutes early, to my surprise! He was actually contracted out, arriving in a regular pickup which made me nervous. I have never really trusted contractors (ignorance is bliss!)...Anyway, he was a very nice gentleman. Got me up and running in 30 minutes or so, then did some line tests and told me that he was not happy with the speeds I was getting. **WHAT??** Wow. Now that's thourough. Thats awesome. So he ran NEW COAX from the box to my apartment, rewired everything! I was stunned. He came back, help me set up my mail, and I was ready to go! First speed test before any tweaks was around 2100 down, 200 up. For all I knew, that was INCREDIBLE. If only I knew what I could be getting.

I came across BBR and did the tweaks. After that, I was hitting the cap and often exceeding it (3000/256).

I went MONTHS trouble free. Then, suddenly, I noticed a HUGE drop in speed, about 1500 down or LESS during OFF PEAK TIMES!! No sir, I would not have it. So I pinged my gateway, got INCREDIBLY high latency and decided to call cox. Called them at Midnight, spoke to a level one tech, who scheduled a truck roll for the following morning in between 10-12.

10:20am, knock knock! Cox man. He came in, ran some tests, checked my modem, etc...discovered it was a network problem, got it fixed on their end and was gone in a flash. Since then, I've been hitting the caps again.

I LOVE COX HSI. I feel the speed is outstanding, and the value can't be beat. They did recently increase their prices, which didn't bother me TOO much because 39.95 is still incredibly reasonable for realiable, fast service. Overall, I've had a GREAT experience with COX.
