I've been a Cox customer for 13-years and am only paying for 25Mb service. My older Motorola 5120 modem died last weekend and I updated it to the new DOCSIS 3.0 version, 6121. As soon as it was hooked up and confirmed by Cox, my speeds more than doubled! I consistently get over 50Mb down (peaks of 75-80Mb) with upload speeds between 5Mb and 8Mb.
I'd recommend BEFORE you upgrade your service, spend $100 to upgrade your cable-modem to the latest version.
