I use to live out in a semi rural area and I assumed there was no choice for a cable company. I started looking around and found that my road sat right in between two cable companies, one being Mediacom and one being Greene County Cable. I did some research and found out that Mediacom was the better of the two and I hoped they would be the ones to provide the service, then one day I get a phone call from Mediacom offering me service ok, no problem sure I want it.

The sales agent took down all my information down scheduled a tech to come out to install. Well the install date went by and no one came. I called up Mediacom and they had no record of my order, so the process started again, but this time they said my address wasn’t in the system they would have to send someone out to check things out and get back to me before we could place an order.

About two weeks later I get a call from Mediacom stating that I was in the service area of another provider please check with Greene County Cable, I was a bit confused, but said ok and continued my journey for cable and called up Greene County Cable. They had to send a tech out the same way and I got a call back in about two weeks stating I was in Mediacom’s Territory by about a half of mile, so I was really getting confused and called Mediacom back. Mediacom this time acknowledged I was in their area and they would have to send a tech about to check to see what was the holdup was. Now this whole time there is a cable line running on the pole in front of my house, but no one is claiming that right now.

During the time I was waiting for the tech to come out and Mediacom to call me back I got four letters in the mail from Mediacom trying to get me to sign up.

Mediacom ended up calling me back and stating that the address was no serviceable by them at this time, but I should be receiving a call from the local area with more information. About 3 weeks later I got that call and I was told it would cost me a little over $39,000.00 (that’s right thirty nine thousand dollars) to get me service. I asked the man on the phone why and he said that they would have to run a new line from the plant (which I could clearly see in the cornfield next to my house) to my house. I asked him about the line on the poles in front of my house he said those lines cannot be tapped into and left it off at that.

Needless to say I didn’t pay the thirty nine grand to get the service, but I sent a series of letters out to Mediacom’s Corporate office to complain. About six months after this whole ordeal I moved out of the area and into the city which is served by Insight Cable, but about a month after I moved I got a letter (that was forwarded from my old address) from Mediacom’s Corporate office one year after I mailed them, stating that I am serviceable sorry about the misunderstandings, and I do not have to pay the thirty nine thousand dollar install fee needless to say it’s pointless to me now, but I forwarded the letter to the people who live at my old house now and they are waiting on the new line to be laid to the house.

I just don’t get how they can call you, send numerous letters and numerous techs out, there be a line in the front of my house and I was expected to pay thirty nine thousand to get the cable. I assume big corporations just don’t look down to the little guys, but if it wasn’t for us there would be no them.

I'll update later on when and if they ever do run that new line.
