We've had issues with Mediacom for years. Service dropping out on a daily basis, speeds up and down. Zero reliability. A couple years ago we followed a friend's suggestion and signed up for a business plan, even though we are a residence. We were told it connects to a different backbone and would be more reliable. It was more reliable, however, we were paying $70/month JUST for internet. Now that our smartphones have free 4g wifi hotspots we decided to go back to a residential plan. With a new 24 month contract we could cut our bill in half while tripling our speed to 30mbps, and in the event that our service went back to being spotty and unreliable as before, we'd have our smartphones for backup. The minute the installer left our house our speeds dropped to 1-3mbps and have stayed that way for roughly two weeks now. The last tech who came out messed around for an hour or so, then literally walked into my living room, threw up his arms and said,"I can't figure it out," and walked out saying he'd refer our case to a supervisor. We've heard nothing from them since. Bottom line: Mediacom cares nothing about providing quality products and services. If they know you are in a neighborhood that has no other options for high speed internet, you are dead to them. THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOU, PERIOD. They will hang their hat on some FCC study that says their service is fast and reliable. BS. Tell the FCC to come to my house and test it. Or any of my neighbors. In every CONSUMER survey I've seen, in Consumer Reports and JD Power, Mediacom is the absolute bottom of the barrel, scum of the earth. I'm not usually for excessive government regulation, but the Iowa Utilities Board needs to start regulating broadband internet in Iowa. Someone needs to hold Mediacom's feet to the fire. And cities and towns across Iowa need to start revoking franchises.
