Let me start by saying that I have been around the block with broadband providers. I have had Comcast (twice), Dish Network, DirecTV, and now WOW!. I moved to Dish Network from Comcast for more cable channels/less money; moved to DirecTV for the same reason, but then soured on their HD-lite picture and dropping of support for TiVo; then moved to Comcast for better HD picture and special cost incentives. Which brings me to WOW!
I had received several flyers from WOW! and finally decided to give them a call. I told the sales rep that I had the "everything but the kitchen sink package" from Comcast (every channel except The Movie Channel and its west coast feed), Digital Voice, and 8mbps up/768kbps down internet) and asked what they could do. Their quoted price for their version of the "everything, etc" package was $104/month less!! I get every premium channel they have (even The Movie Channel), digital phone service, and 6mbps up/768 kbps down internet. This includes 3 TVs and a cable line to my desktop computer (effectively making a total of 4 TVs), and 2 CableCards for my TiVo Series 3.
The sales rep was extremely pleasant (even funny!) and answered every question completely to my satisfaction (even understanding why I needed the installer to bring numerous CableCards for my TiVo; he knew about TiVos and how flaky CableCards can be). The only reason it took 9 days for the install was my preference for a Saturday install and my own availability; it could have been installed in as little as two days. The install itself went extremely smoothly and both CableCards were recognized and activated without a hitch.
The only downsides I see are: 1) not receiving ESPN2HD (only an issue during football season); 2) losing National Geographic Channel HD (and from what I understand, History Channel HD has also been added to Comcast's lineup) and 3) not being able to watch the 8 NFL Network's Thursday/Saturday games (WOW! refused to pay the additional fees for showing the games even though they have the channel available; I agree with their decision from a cost perspective). However, by offering the Big Ten Network (albeit not in HD), downsides 1 and 3 are somewhat mitigated.
Service has been great. No cable dropouts or loss of signal, the phone service works great, and my internet connection has been rock-solid (and I have seen no loss of performance by moving from Comcast's 8 mbps to WOW!'s 6 mbps; perhaps having less customers online at any one time has made a difference).
My wife loves the savings and we both have enjoyed the services. I am telling all my neighbors to check out WOW! I am glad we made the change!
