"Download speeds are fine not great"
"Upload speed is absolutely horrible, throttled!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
"Got a decent deal on a bundle."

There is a lot of talk about throttling and I can't believe some people deny it. I just switched from Aliant, I got a decent bundle. The first thing I noticed was that my downloads were OK but my upload speed has been cut in half. This is a problem cause now it takes me much longer to upload, therefore my computer is on much longer, which will affect my power bill. Not sure how much it affects my power bill but I'm sure it doesn't help. I am very frustrated by this and I'm sure Eastlink is throttling both my download and upload speeds. I wish there was more competition but there ain't and we are screwed!!!!

time to deal with a problem

I got a problem with my cable or cable box. Eastlink tried a fix over the phone-no success. The tech support suggested its my cable box so OK lets replace it. Not that easy, we have to make an appointment. The earlist is one week from today and I must be at home between the hours of 12 noon to 5 pm (quite a window. Apparently I cannot return my cable box to the company and have it tested or bring home a new one. They don't support that procedure. It's a good thing that most of the programing sucks or I would be really mad.

Re: time to deal with a problem

I decided to give them a try again for their Digital Cable, so far I'm not impressed myself. Scheduled an appointment to have two receivers hooked up, one to the TV and the other to my media centre PC.

While I was upstairs setting up the options on my computer, installer was downstairs setting up the TV one, before I even knew it the installer was pulling out of the driveway. Had to run some errands (after waiting around for that nice large 5 hour window they give cabco) When I got home I tuned into the digital stations, the screen kept dropping and pixelating and the analog channels are all grainy, all the music channels keep dropping audio as well.

Called in to complain, was sent out the same installer the next day who basically informed us he just did installs. So he swapped some basic things like ends of cables and splitters, nothing really changed. Installer informs us that in fact things might get worse or not improve and if that happens to schedule a technician to come out and check things out. (he even said he didn't have the right equipment to check the signal quality). Sure enough, absolutely nothing had changed :| In fact checking my Motorola cable modem stats, they are indeed now worse than before.

So again I call and am told they don't have any openings until Easter Sunday (another 5 hour window, yay) A guy in a truck shows up, and basically tells us there is interference in the line between the house and the pole. Of course you would think he would be running that line since he's the coveted cable technician. Nope, am informed that sometime during the day either Monday (nothing happened) or Tuesday (still waiting) Someone will come out and replace the cable to the house whether we are here or not.

I haven't disconnected from Satellite yet, but so far they aren't winning me over, let alone even bothering to try. I seem to remember this 8 years ago or so, when the cable modem kept dropping offline. They endlessly blamed that cable that swings back/forth in the wind on a stormy day. After almost a month of troubleshooting, back then I was basically told "There is a bad node in your area, we don't know where it is, and unless someone is up on the pole when it happens, we cannot track the problem down" Ended up at times with no internet most of the evening right through till morning.

I'd like to blame the cable between the house and the pole too, but I think it's time to think outside the box.
