Update: Since the beginning of November, 2009, CableOne has had a significant connection speed issue. Early mornings everything is fine, but by afternoon, I am lucky to get half the promised download speed and 1/3 our promised upload speed. I have talked to techs 'til the cows came home (including level 2 techs and engineers), and they have no idea what is wrong, much less how to fix it. We are paying for 10 mbps down/1 mbps up because my husband needs to participate in videoconferences for his work, When we first kicked up to the higher level plan, it was great, but not anymore. They just can't deliver. This has gone on long enough that we will be switching to Qwest, which doesn't offer quite as high an upload speed, but at least they can deliver what they charge you for - that is what I have at my office, and I haven't had the problems that CableOne has had for a full month with no resolution. In the course of trying to resolve this problem, four people have promised to call me when it's fixed. They never called.
Original review (most of which is still true): CableOne.net is a cable television provider that also provides broadband Internet. Unfortunately, CableOne still thinks like a cable company, not an ISP. They provide no home page, very minimal account management (no statement download), have more outages than they should, and their tier 1 tech support is still marginal. They have also isolated their second tier of tech support from subscribers, so when I have an issue that the first tier cannot handle (as I have had again this week), their first tier support people leave me on hold while they go talk to the level 2 support staff. Then they return to relay what the level 2 people said to me and try to do more diagnostics. This can go on two or three times, which wastes everyone's time, but I still can't talk to the level two support staff unless they call me, which they did today. This is an improvement, but they still have not resolved our current issue - we are paying for a 10MB download speed, but our speed dropped to about 5MB in early November 2009. They can't figure out the problem. Their competitors, Qwest, now offer almost comparable connection speeds, and if CableOne cannot resolve our current connection speed issues, they may lose us as customers. Also, if you want real VOIP phone service, go elsewhere. If there were as good an option through another provider, I would take it, but in my neighborhood this is still as good as it gets.

| Cableone.net Message by connexus covers the issue better than I could. This has been my experience since it was AT&T @home.com When they they finally changed the QAM on the download channel to 256 was when I finally got somewhere near the advertised speed especially during peak hours. Since I wrote to Senator Craig they no longer speak to me. Qwest only has 1 meg down and that only became available in the past 6-8 months So Grin and bear it | |

@cableone.net
| I agree I couldn't have said it better either, I had qwest when I lived in boise and I paid for the 20 MBIT line, I got about 18mbps which is close enough.
With cableone I pay for 12mb which by the way is twice as much as the 20mb quest plan and I get about 1.5-2mb/sec during regular hours. I can tell they have done 1 of 2 things. 1) Target per user and cap us during peak times even if the threshold has not been met, and 2) they have oversubscribed their lines far far out of the ordinary subscription protocols
Shame on this company, ill be writing my congressman too, as they hvae lied to me ont he phone over and over that they are "working on it"
Bullshit cableone, you just do not plan on providing the network for your overpriced "guaranteed" package schemes, god I wish AT&T@Home was still here. | |
